Hi everyone,

My name is Rachel, and I’m reaching out for help for my sweet Siberian Husky, Bodie. Bodie is a rescue from an animal shelter, and I’ve been lucky enough to have him by my side for the last 13 years. He’s been my fluffy baby, my walking buddy, and my best friend through thick and thin.

Recently, Bodie — who is normally full of energy and always ready to play and have fun — collapsed on a short walk. I rushed him to ASEC VCA, where the medical team was able to resuscitate him after he passed away moments after arrival. It was one of the scariest moments of my life. The diagnosis was aspiration pneumonia, but thankfully, Bodie made a fast, miraculous recovery.

However, this isn’t the first time Bodie has struggled with his breathing. For nearly two years, he’s had raspy breathing and heavy panting, and we’ve been to the vet more times than I can count. I’ve been told it could be anxiety, pain, or simply old age — but the emergency vets now believe he may have laryngeal paralysis or a mass in his airway.

Despite these challenges, Bodie’s spirit hasn’t changed. I realize he’s around 14 years old, but he still wants to play, joke around, go on walks, and have fun. He’s still happy, playful, and loves to eat, steal food, and enjoy life. The problem is, when he gets too excited, he can’t breathe properly — and because of his airway issues, his normal way of panting to cool down no longer works.

If Bodie were unhappy or in pain all the time, I’d be making different arrangements. But he’s not. He still has a huge zest for life — he just needs help to breathe again so he can keep enjoying it.

Our vet now recommends an exploratory procedure to find out exactly what’s blocking his airways and to determine if surgery or another treatment could help. Unfortunately, I’ve already maxed out my credit cards paying for his recent emergency care and medications, and I simply can’t afford the next steps on my own.

That’s why I’m turning to this community — to ask for help so Bodie can get the care he deserves and continue living his happy, playful life.
