Hi, my name is Michelle, and I’m writing to ask for help for my 7-year-old son, Bodhi. Just before Christmas last year, our world was turned upside down when Bodhi was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He spent time in the hospital, and since then, we’ve been navigating a life we never expected. What scares me the most is that Bodhi is hypoglycemic unaware—meaning he can’t feel when his blood sugar drops dangerously low. It’s like living on a knife’s edge, never knowing when the next low might come, especially after he plays sports or during the night when we’re all asleep.

As a mom, it’s terrifying to think that I might not wake up in time to help him. We’ve been blessed with technology, but I still find myself checking on him multiple times throughout the night, heart racing with worry. I want him to live like any other 7-year-old—to run, play, and enjoy his childhood without fear. That’s why we’re trying to raise funds for a medical alert dog—a dog that can sense those silent drops in his blood sugar and alert us before it’s too late.

These highly trained dogs cost between $30,000 and $40,000, but we’ve been fortunate to partner with an organization that helps families like ours. We need to raise $9,000 to cover the cost of a puppy, supplies, and our family’s contribution toward the training. The Malinois Foundation will assist with covering the rest.
