Help 5-Year-Old Boden Get a Life-Saving Diabetic Alert Service Dog
Our sweet, brave 5-year-old son, Boden, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes—a life-changing diagnosis that has turned our family's world upside down.
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that causes the body to stop producing insulin, a hormone that is essential for survival. Unlike Type 2 Diabetes, it cannot be prevented, cured, or reversed. For Boden, this means constant blood sugar monitoring, multiple daily insulin doses, carb counting, finger sticks, sensor changes, and the ongoing fear of dangerous highs and lows.
Since his diagnosis, every day and every night has become a balancing act. Blood sugar levels can change rapidly, especially while children are sleeping, playing, at school, or simply being kids. A severe low blood sugar event can become a medical emergency within minutes.
That's why we are raising funds to help Boden receive a diabetic alert service dog.
These incredible dogs are specially trained to detect changes in blood sugar levels—often before glucose monitors or symptoms alert us. They can warn caregivers of dangerous highs and lows, wake a sleeping child during nighttime emergencies, provide an extra layer of safety, and offer independence and confidence as children grow.
For families living with Type 1 Diabetes, service dogs are much more than companions—they are life-saving partners. They provide peace of mind during school days, playdates, bedtime, and all the moments in between. Their ability to detect blood sugar changes can help prevent emergencies and improve quality of life for both the child and their family.
Unfortunately, diabetic alert service dogs are expensive, often costing tens of thousands of dollars, and not covered by insurance. While we would do anything for our son, the financial burden is significant.
We are asking for your help in giving Boden the opportunity to have a service dog by his side as he learns to navigate life with Type 1 Diabetes. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to providing him with an added layer of protection, independence, and confidence.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing Boden's story. Your support, prayers, and encouragement mean more to us than words can express.
Thank you for helping us give Boden the safest, healthiest future possible. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and generosity.
With love and gratitude
