I normally don’t do things like this, but I have felt compelled to help Bobby G during this difficult time in his life. You see, Bobby G is not one to ask for help. He is the one who is always helping others—building others up and serving others through his many community ministries. I know him through church as our worship leader. He has faithfully led the Riverside Community Church through this past year’s pandemic. We have lost a number of our family this past year as many of our members are elderly. But he has always been a positive support through it all. We all need a Bobby G in our community.
Who is Bobby G you ask? He is always looking for ways to help others live a fulfilled life whether through exercise, a healthful plant-based diet, or mental wellness. His smile fills the room. And his baritone voice is always reassuring and hopeful. He is personally training for the senior Olympics and is always willing to share the best new vegan restaurants and recipes. Even though his three sons may be skeptical of plant based protein, he has won them over in many occasions much to his delight. Despite all the challenges in his life, he has remained positive and grateful in everything.
Oh, did I mention that he also is a substitute teacher for elementary school students? He provides the guidance these young minds need to find confidence and purpose in their lives.
But he can’t do it all alone. He needs our help. A couple weeks ago, his trusty 4Runner blew out a tire and rolled over at highway speeds. It was totaled. Thank God Bobby G came away with only some bruises and scratches. But with any near death experience, he has admitted that he is going through a difficult time mentally and emotionally. What if his sons were left fatherless? Who would fill the void in our community that would be left?
It has taken a lot, but Bobby G is asking for help. He has limited funds working for the church and for public schools. Two vitally important institutions but both whose pay does not reflect the magnitude of its impact. He needs to find a vehicle to replace the one that was totaled—something similar to what he had so that he can tow a trailer and continue to help those around him.
He is treading water in the “deep end” right now, and could use some help getting back onto solid ground. Won’t you help?
