On Sunday, I spent time with a 70-year-old homeless man named Bobby, and it was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had in a long while. Bobby’s story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Despite facing the daily challenges of homelessness in the Amazon, he remains hopeful and kind. All Bobby truly wants is to be seen, to not die alone on the concrete, and to know if his mother—who he hasn’t seen since 2015 and who is now 94—is still alive. These are simple wishes, but for Bobby, they feel out of reach.

Bobby urgently needs shelter, clothing, a new prosthetic leg, and medical care. He’s been living without the basic necessities that so many of us take for granted. During our dinner, Bobby shared how much it would mean to have a safe place to sleep and the chance to reconnect with his mother. His resilience and gentle spirit left a deep impression on me. I promised Bobby I would use my voice to try and get him some help, and I believe that together, we can make a real difference in his life.
