Dear Friends and Family or those who have been touched by Bob and Sheri Miller,
Our parents, Bob and Sheri, were hit hard last month. Bob was diagnosed with cancer and, needless to say, this has turned our world upside-down. Right before Thanksgiving we found out how ill Bob was after he finally agreed to go to the doctor (after weeks of symptoms). He was then admitted to the Reading Hospital and unofficially diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. We went to an oncologist consultation at Penn Medicine on Thursday, December 7th and Bob was immediately told to go down to the Penn ER due to his dangerously low hemoglobin and platelet counts. After a traumatic 8 hour wait in their ER, he was finally admitted and given the blood and platelet infusions he desperately needed. Bob and Sheri have remained at the hospital since that oncologist appointment. Bob had his first cancer treatment late night on Dec 11-12th, but due to his platelet and hemoglobin levels refusing to level out, even to a critically low threshold, he is still unable to be discharged and remains hospitalized.
Bob is a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather of 8, brother and friend. Anyone who knows Bob knows how selfless and kind he is. He is always willing to help and give us his time, money and resources to someone in need. This kind of thing, a Go-Fund-Me, is definitely not his thing. He is always the one offering to help and putting himself last. But this has been an incredibly difficult time and he and his family - our family - could sure use some help. It’s been a lot.
Bob and Sheri do have insurance coverage through Sheri’s job. She is an RN at Tower Health, but Sheri has remained by his side as his caregiver and has already missed a month of work. Due to his low platelets and hemoglobin, being without a caregiver could have dangerous consequences. So - between lost income and Sheri having to retroactively pay back the medical insurance that usually comes out of her paycheck, we would love to bless them so she can focus on caring for Bob and not worry about lost wages and paying insurance back. Not to mention that when something like this strikes a household, there are just SO many unexpected expenses. Already the bills are adding up for just from being in the hospital, having countless infusion, scans and doctor visits and then of course daily life at home continues on. You still need to go food shopping and do household chores. To repeat - it’s a lot.
We are hoping this campaign can lessen their financial burden a bit and ease some of their burden so they can focus on treatment rather than expenses.
With Heartfelt Gratitude,
Amy and Steve Elliker & Jaime and Lincoln Bartlett
