Late Monday 12/8/2025, the unthinkable happened. A fire tore through the family home of my boyfriend, Todd Mehaffey, and his parents, Bob and Laurie Mehaffey. A home that’s been in the family for multiple generations, a welcoming place filled with memories, laughter, and love. In a matter of moments, everything they owned was gone. They escaped with only the clothes on their backs and the hope that somehow, someday, life will feel safe again.

Losing a home is more than losing walls, furniture, and possessions. It’s losing the photos you can’t replace, the pieces of family history, the things you don’t realize you treasure until they’re gone. It’s waking up the next day unsure of where to start, with the weight of grief and shock still settling in and no ability to process. It has stolen the safety and security of what we all take for granted every day. Home.

Right now, they are trying to navigate the painful reality of having nowhere to return to. They need help with the basics like clothing, food, and the immediate essentials that make day-to-day life possible. Even with insurance, the road ahead is long, overwhelming, and expensive. And it takes a lot of time.

Bob retired a few months ago with dreams of stress free relaxation.
Laurie was partially retired and looking forward to more close family time.
Todd spent years building collections and memories, growing up in that home, his childhood toys, collections, photos, all gone now.

This family has always opened their hearts and their home to everyone around them, including me. They are the kind of people who show up for others without being asked. Now, they are the ones who need support, compassion, and community.

If you are able to donate, please know that your kindness will directly help them take the first fragile steps toward rebuilding their lives. And if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign is just as meaningful.

Thank you, truly, for taking the time to read their story and for holding them in your thoughts. Your support offers more than money — it offers hope at a moment when they desperately need it. It offers a little light in this darkness.

With all my heart,
Ashley Hoburg
