12 years ago, Bob Schmitz was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, an extremely fatal disease with no known cause and no cure. 10 years ago this led to a double lung transplant. eight year ago, he moved to Panama because the cost of living made it easier to live on Social Security. living in New york on social security drained his savings after the market crash. 3 years later, he moved to Medellin Colombia because it had an even more affordable and better lifestyle. in medellin bob met and fell in love with his fiancee. When he arrives next month they will get married and spend the rest of their life together.
In October 2019 Bob flew to NYC for cataract surgery and a checkup meeting with the lung transplant department at NY Presbyterian Hospital where he had had his lung transplant. There they found a major rejection was happening to his lungs, causing rapid serious shortness of breath. two months passed by with 4 different treatments, a major surgery, two hospital stays, one for over a month, and finally, an infusion treatment called IVIG,
which finally began to slow his lung deterioration down after all else failed.
two trips to Colombia failed to allow him to get the IVIG treatment in Colombia due to the cost being $6500 a month in USA and not much less there.
Bob returned to USA where two friends gave him a place to stay for two years.
Bob needs to get back to Colombia, but if he stopped getting the treatment, the doctors advised that it probably would result in his death. in order to get the $6500 month treatment he would have to fly back to USA every month at the same time for the four hour treatment. Airfare to New York runs $400 to $600 month and the cost of living and expenses will be up to and more than $30,000 , unfortunately monthly expenses outweigh his social security. This is a 79 years old man that is lucky to be alive! he would appreciate any help you can provide to allow him to lives and receive his monthly medication. This is a man like others due to the cost of medical expenses and his been left with no savings, credit card debt, and no way to work at 79 years old.This is a man who paid in to the system his whole life and needs a leg up. He would appreciate and assistance you can offer.If you have a contact and the airlines as an example that would be awesome
