Help Uncle Bob Care for Aunt Ruth

Story

My name is Diana Acosta, and I’m reaching out on behalf of two of the most extraordinary people I’ve ever known - my uncle and aunt, Bob and Ruth Acosta. They’ve been a constant source of love, strength, and inspiration in my life. As someone who has witnessed their unwavering commitment to each other and to helping others, I feel deeply compelled to share their story and ask for your support during this incredibly difficult time. For over 54 years, Bob and Ruth Acosta have shared a life built on love, resilience, and service. Both blind since birth, they’ve never let their disability define them. Instead, they’ve dedicated their lives to lifting others - especially within the blind community. But now, they need our help. Two years ago, Ruth suffered a devastating stroke that left her bedridden. She now requires full-time care through hospice and a private board and care facility. The cost is staggering - $4,000 every month. Despite a lifetime of hard work, Bob and Ruth fall into the heartbreaking gap of being neither wealthy enough to afford this care comfortably, nor poor enough to qualify for state or federal assistance. At 86 years old, Bob continues to give. He spent over 35 years teaching at Chatsworth High School and has held executive roles with the California Council for the Blind. He’s also the founder and director of Helping Hands for the Blind, a nonprofit that raises funds to improve the lives of blind individuals. Bob has spent his life helping others. Now it’s our turn to help him. We’re raising $25,000 to help cover a portion of Aunt Ruth’s care and ease the financial burden on Uncle Bob. Every donation - no matter the size - makes a difference. If you can’t give, please consider sharing this page with your network. Let’s show Uncle Bob and Aunt Ruth that their decades of compassion and service have not gone unnoticed. Let’s give back to two people who have given so much. With gratitude, The Acosta Family
