I never imagined I’d be in this position — asking for help to care for my father.

Just a short time ago, my dad was living independently, trying to stay strong in the face of life’s hardships. But then he had a stroke.

Now, everything has changed. He’s lying in a hospital bed, fighting to recover, and he has no home to go back to when he’s discharged. He has no income, no support system beyond me, my brother, and our mom, and no safety net.

As his child, I’m doing everything in my power to take care of him — but I simply can’t do it alone. I’ve been thrown into making emergency decisions about medical care, housing, transportation, and basic needs — all without the resources to provide them.

This is where I’m asking for your help.

• Giving my dad a safe place to stay while we find long-term care

• Providing medical equipment and transportation to rehab

• Covering food, clothing, and basic hygiene needs

• Helping me apply for Medicaid and disability assistance on his behalf

I’m not looking for a miracle — just a little compassion from people who understand what it means to care for a parent in need.

My dad is a good man. He’s been through more than most, and this stroke hit him at a time when he had very little left. I just want to give him dignity and a fighting chance to recover.
