Bluey is our 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees, and he means the world to our family. He’s not just a livestock guardian—he’s our loyal companion, our protector, and the source of so much joy in our lives. Recently, Bluey lost most of his mobility due to bi-lateral CCL (dog ACL) tears in his hind legs. Watching him struggle to walk and seeing his playful spirit dim has been heartbreaking for all of us. At such a young age, he deserves to run, play, and enjoy life to the fullest, not be held back by pain and the risk of arthritis.
Bluey’s surgeries come at a time when our finances are already stretched thin. I’m a single mom of two kids. I have a small business providing home services—if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. There’s no paid leave, no corporate safety net, and no cushion for sudden emergencies of this size. Every dollar already goes toward our mortgage, utilities, groceries, business expenses, kids’ needs, and medical costs. There isn’t extra sitting in savings for something this large and unexpected. Bluey tearing both of his CCLs means two surgeries to give a 1.5-year-old dog the chance to walk normally again. He’s not just a pet. He’s protection for our home. He’s companionship for my kids. He’s part of our daily life.
We are willing to sacrifice and are adjusting, paying what we can. But covering the full cost on our own would mean financial strain that affects our entire household for a long time—delaying other essential expenses and creating stress that ripples through everything. I don’t ask lightly. But this is one of those moments where community matters. Where a little help from many people can prevent one family from carrying a crushing weight alone. If you’re able to help—even by sharing—your support truly makes a difference. Thank you for helping Bluey get back on his paws and for being part of his journey to recovery.
