Hi, my name is Heather, I am trying to raise funds to cover vet expenses for my amazing doggy Blu, who has just been diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. Unfortunately, there are only a few options to help save Blu and defeat this cancer. One option is chemotherapy, this option is not one we can afford, quoted at $12-13,000! Plus chemo is really harsh on the body as it poisons the cancer, it can also poisons the other organs. His life expectancy with 6 months of chemo, is at best one year, and his quality of life could be compromised. There is a new option for a Lymphosarcoma in dogs, by way of a vaccine, K9-ACV by Ardent Animal Health. It works like this: the vet surgically removes a lymph node (or tumor depending on the cancer a dog is diagnosed with) so for Blu, vet would remove a lymph node and send it to the Ardent Animal Health lab, they will extract the cells from the lymph node and prepare 3 vaccines to be administered by his vet every 30 days, until complete. Side effects could be mild fever, sleepiness, or loss of appetite, and possible redness/swelling at vaccine site for the first 48 hours. We will also incorporate immune building vitamins, minerals, and supplements to help his body naturally fight the cancer. From what I understand, with the vaccine, Blu can have an 80%+ chance of survival with a better quality of life than with traditional chemotherapy. The vaccine is still in experimental stages, but it’s promising and it’s his best chance at survival with a better quality of life. Now, let me tell you about Blu. We adopted Blu, six months after we had adopted his sister, Xena, from a family member. Blu had been returned by his adopters, to said family member at ten months old. Blu had been abused by his previous adopters, and was aggressive with eye contact, or bending over him. Everyone I turned to at the time, told me he had no chance and my best option was euthanasia for him. I had no experience treating big dog behavioral issues, (I am a chihuahua girl) but I kept researching and finally came upon Cesar Millan’s dog training website. At last there was hope for Blu! With hard work and lots of treats, Blu was able to turn around and learned he could trust us. We came up with a way for him to meet new people that came to visit (thanks to my RVT sister in laws advice) and we also (accidentally) found out that Blu absolutely adored children! He loved bouncy houses with slides and whenever we had a birthday party, you could find Blu in the bouncy house with the kids and sliding down the slides! We use to foster kittens and he has always (since we adopted him) lived with cats. Blu has been the best ever doggy brother to our foster kitties, as well as our resident cats, his sister, and our two other little chihuahua doggies. He is the most gentle and loving soul to those smaller than him. He is talkative, protective, and kind. When he does the “meet routine” properly, he knows he is safe when adult visitors come over and he relaxes. I recently became a Gigi, to a beautiful baby boy and Blu would go to the ends of this Earth for that baby. That is BLU’s baby! Blu is the most amazing boy ever! We are not ready for Blu to leave us (we never will be) so please help us try to save BLU’s life so he can enjoy his baby as long as possible. Thank you for your help!
