For nearly 50 years, Blondie Strange has been a beloved fixture at Atlanta’s historic Clermont Lounge. As a dancer, poet laureate, and cultural icon, Blondie is famous for her signature PBR can-crushing and her unforgettable presence. She’s helped turn an underground legend into a true Atlanta institution, even earning a live shout-out from Mick Jagger.
But behind the legend, Blondie faces real challenges. Now nearly 70, she has no retirement or Social Security and continues working almost every week. Getting to work has become increasingly difficult—she often travels long distances, walking or taking buses late at night and in bad weather, carrying heavy bags filled with costumes and poems. Years ago, Blondie was even struck by a car, and the commute is taking a toll on her body and spirit.
We are a group of Blondie’s friends, patrons, and admirers who love her deeply. This effort began when a dear Atlantan, Anna, saw Blondie struggling to get to work and reached out with concern—an angel in the city.
Our immediate goal is to create a reliable transportation pool so Blondie can get safely to and from the Clermont Lounge. But our ultimate hope is to raise enough to help her move closer to the club she’s called home for decades. Every dollar raised will go directly to benefit Blondie—whether it’s for safe rides, a moving truck and deposit, or helping her settle into a new home and cover living expenses. If we exceed our transportation goal, all additional funds will support Blondie’s move and her ongoing needs, so she can continue to inspire Atlanta for years to come.
