Blitz was a K-9 police dog for the Panama City Beach police department until he was medically retired last month. The lens in his right eye came completely detached and is now floating around in the back of the eye. The lens in his left eye is partially detached, and is at risk of becoming fully detached. If either of his lenses shift into the front of his eye, it will cause an increase in eye pressure which will be very painful and cause permanent vision loss. There is a surgery that would remove both lenses and implant and attach two artificial lenses, so that Blitz would still be able to see.
The surgery for both eyes and rehabilitation would cost around $6200.
Now that Blitz is medically retired, he gets to stay home with his handler and is well loved and taken care of, but these expenses fall on his handler. It would be great if we as a community could raise enough money to help Blitz, after all, he has helped keep our community safe for years. If somehow the goal is exceeded, all extra would go to the ongoing care and maintenance of Blitz, such as food, medication, etc.
