Students at Blevins Middle School in Fort Collins, CO built wind turbines in their Innovations in Design and Technology II class. Those wind turbines were tested at a regional KidWind Competition at Colorado State University. The Silver Bruins and Wind Surfers Teams took 1st and 2nd place. Both top performing teams were invited to compete at the World KidWind Challenge, held May 18-21 in Phoenix, AZ, where they’ll test their wind turbines in 3-4 wind tunnels, each set to a different wind speed, present their projects to a panel of judges, and participate in on-the-spot tests of knowledge, skills, problem solving, and teamwork without prior preparation. The teams are looking for donations/sponsors to help fund their 4-day trip to Arizona.
Silver Bruins Team (Reed and Brennan): “In our Technology class, we gained valuable insights into the design cycle and wind turbines, and we proudly emerged as winners of the competition at Colorado State University. We are actively refining and enhancing our design as we gear up for the World Competition.”
Wind Surfers Team (Sophia, Thomas, Wyatt, and Sam): “We are excited to have qualified for the Kidwind World Competition. The four of us have combined our skills and talent to construct and improve our wind turbine design and are looking forward to our next challenge in this competition.”
