This “gofundme” has been created as a way to help Chris and Elaina Stutzman welcome their new baby boy, little Joey, to the world! Joey’s story has included an unexpected stay in the NICU, and doctors expect the healing process to take over a month there. If you would like to bless them with a gift or show them you care, this would be a wonderful way to do so as they are making daily trips to the hospital, eating meals on the go, and have various other expenses related to Joey’s needs. Joseph Luke Stutzman was born on August 29th after a perfect and uncomplicated pregnancy. Whether he was going to be a boy or girl was a fun surprise we all waited to hear, and the news of a boy was so exciting! Unfortunately there was also some hard news to hear … due to complications during his birth, little Joey was struggling to breathe from meconium aspiration and had to be taken to the NICU immediately. While there he remained stable, but critical, and at the max level of treatment available to him.

He was transferred to the NICU at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where he is receiving top-notch care. He is sedated and on an oscillator, but thankfully stable and making small improvements each day. Today he is one week old and gave his parents, Chris and Elaina, a little peek at his eyes open, the first time they have seen them open since he was born!

The doctors have said that the healing process is a long one, and to expect more than a month in the NICU. Joey’s parents, Chris and Elaina, have stayed strong in their faith and trust in God no matter what. They have never complained or asked for anything, and they truly enjoy each minute spent with Joey.

However, one can only imagine the emotional strain of returning home from the hospital without your baby, desperately praying for a miracle, spending hours each day driving back and forth to the hospital, constantly wondering how he’s doing when you’re not there, answering so many texts and phone calls, and recovering physically from having a baby.

If you know them personally, you know Chris and Elaina, are good, kind hearted, generous people who love others and have always been willing to lend a helping hand to others. We are praying and believing with them for the day they can hold their precious boy in their arms and take him home!
