My name is jez. I'm an artist hailing from Brooklyn, NY residing in L. A. My wife and I moved here two years ago, the first year we lived here we were able to use that New York resilience to get around but that quickly became very dangerous (both of us being followed by men on the way to work, you name it) as well as expensive for two black femmes. A family member allowed us to have their car but it has become increasingly unsafe as well. After taking it to the dealer to be serviced today we were told that we are not allowed to take our car back because it simply isn't drivable because it's hanging on by a bolt and cannot accelerate without weaving into traffic . My wife is an essential worker and their job is now changing locations and public transportation is not an option due to Covid-19 and the afformentioned daily micro aggressions that come with riding public transportation.
