My name is Brittany and I'm reaching out for help for my 19-year-old son, Blane, who was unfortunately hit by a car while riding his motorcycle. Blane is such a great person all around, always trying to help everyone, trying to never burden anyone, always willing to work for whatever it is he needs.
He was taken to the hospital where he stayed for just over a week and had to undergo surgery to have a metal rod put in his leg as his tibia and fibula were both badly broken. Doctors stated that he needed inpatient rehabilitation upon release from the hospital, which he was denied, greatly affecting his ability to regain normal use of his entire leg, as he was kicked off his health insurance as soon as he turned 19 despite the fact that he does not have access to employer insurance.
The hospital bill alone is $96,000 and does not cover check-ups he had with the orthopedic surgeon after surgery or any kind of rehabilitation for his leg, and car insurance covered only $1,000 of the bill. He's already had to return to work to try and keep his head above water, as bills were stacking up the whole time, even though you can see in the X-ray on his photo that one of his bones is still completely broken right now and not even lined up, which I feel is due to the lack of insurance. There is a drastic difference in treatment for patients with insurance and patients without, which is unfair, especially since you have to pay the money no matter what!
I would do anything to take all of his pain, bills, and burdens because a 19-year-old young man should not be starting his life out with such a huge debt and life-changing circumstances. However, helping with his bills is proving to be quite difficult as I was just fired from my job simply for being a female in a group of all males. As a mother, I'm desperate to get him help so that he doesn't get buried in debt and so he can get a second opinion about just leaving his leg still broken like that and having him walk on it since day one without a cast, boot, or any kind of stabilization for it.
I appreciate every single one of you just for taking the time to read about his story and thank God that he's still alive!
