Unexpected Medical Emergency Costs for Blake

Blake's story:

Sunday evening of June 27th around 4 pm, Blake and his family had just got home from a birthday party. It was almost immediately after walking in the door, he laid down on the floor and was acting strange. His temp was nearly 103 and he began vomiting. The vomiting continued throughout the night and into Monday morning. Around 7:30 am Monday, June 28th, he asked for a drink of water which he immediately threw up. That is when his mom took him to the ER at St. Francis.

While at St. Francis they did an array of blood tests and the one that stuck out to them, was his level of hydration. Blake was completely dehydrated. He was hooked up to an IV and given nausea medication. After hours of hoping things would turn for the better, it did not. The doctor said if Blake was able to keep a popsicle and water down, he would be able to go home. After eating the popsicle and drinking the water, he almost immediately vomited. That is when Blake was sent to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, where he currently is being treated.

Blake and his parents arrived at Children's ER Monday night where he became much more ill. Once entering the room and being placed on the bed, it was clear by the purple color of his entire body there was something seriously wrong. The next thing his parents knew, the nurse grabbed Blake and they were being led to the emergency trauma room. This is where Blake lost oxygen and his blood pressure dropped significantly. He was then hooked to an oxygen mask and two IV's. After what felt like a lifetime, his parents were able to hug, kiss and talk to him. He asked for his "B" (his favorite blanket) and those were his last words he spoke.

In the last four days, Blake has had numerous blood tests run, a CT scan, spinal tap, and recently received a feeing tube, and more tests to come. But what we know for sure is Blake has Haemophilus (bacteria) in his blood, which has now spread to his spinal cord and brain causing him to have Bacterial Meningitis.

Blake is currently in the ICU battling this serious illness and has a long road to recovery. We are putting all our trust in the doctors at Children's Hospital. Thank you for your prayers and support, the funds will be used for all the medical costs incurred.
