Hi, my name is Blake. I am a 25-year-old paraplegic from the chest down. I was shot and paralyzed in July of 2021 at the age of 21.
Before my incident, all I ever wanted was to provide for a family. I was always working, and when I wasn’t at work, I always felt the need to be on the go and doing something productive, whether it be things around the house or helping others in any way.
After my incident, I spent 3 months in the hospital before getting released and moving in with my mom. Things didn’t work out, and I later had to move in with a buddy. Since then, I have been bouncing from house to house, depending on a disability check.
I want to go back to school and get back to work as soon as I can, and the best way for me to do so is to get my own transportation. I’m in a 500-pound electric wheelchair, and no one really ever wants to mess with loading it, so it tends to be very hard to get out of the house. It’s basically imprisoned me, being in this chair without a proper vehicle to get out. I constantly have to reschedule appointments due to rides not showing up. I’m always missing things from birthdays, gatherings, etc. People have proven to me that asking for things to be picked up I need is too much to ask. Just the overall freedom and independence it would bring me would be the greatest way to get back to really living. I’d love to be able to get out and about with my son and get him into sports and be able to show up anytime and every time without depending on others and eventually buy us a house to call home.
I’m not the best at asking for help, never thought I’d be in a position to need to, so nothing's ever expected, but anything and everything is always highly appreciated! I understand hard times, so even a share or a spread of word would mean the world to me! Thank you all so very much in advance!
