Help Blair & Miles Build Their Family

Blair’s battle with health issues started when she was five years old. A few days out of every month she was debilitated with seizures. Since the time she was young the question of “will she be able to have children” has been on the forefront of everyone’s mind.
In 2018 Blair and her husband Miles started their journey to becoming parents. In order to do this Blair had to stop taking some of her medications due to their toxicity. Sadly, this turned Blair’s monthly struggle into a daily fight having 20 plus seizures a day. Which made the thought of having a child seem impossible and far from obtainable. Thankfully she was introduced to a more natural approach and has been seizure free for four years in October.
A year or so after this miracle Blair and Miles decided it was time to try again and began looking into all options to have a child. Weighing all the risks, consulting the opinions of many doctors, and with a whole lot of faith & prayer they were able to naturally conceive. Elliott Kehler changed everyone’s lives on October 16th, 2021. Considering the odds his birth went smoother than many anticipated but still with complications. Blair had to have an emergency c-section after 36 hours of labor but we were so grateful he was here and his mom was in good health.
Fast forward to less than four weeks later everything changed. Blair started rapidly hemorrhaging and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. Hospital staff tried all they could to stop the bleeding but as a last resort said they needed to go in surgically to resolve the issue. Before surgery Blair was warned there was a less than 1% chance she would have to have a partial hysterectomy but they felt confident it would not result in that.
Four hours later, after what should have been a thirty minute simple repair procedure and having 9 units of blood transfused (the average adult has 10 units in their body total) the doctors told us we were lucky she was even alive. Unfortunately, to save her life, they had to remove her uterus. Which means she will never be able to carry her own child again. A devastating loss for any woman but even more so for a 28 year old who finally felt like she was in the clear to have the family she and her husband always dreamt of.
As in any situation, one tries to find the good. Luckily for Blair & Miles there are options to have more children and for Elliott to have a sibling. Because it was a partial hysterectomy Blair’s body still produces eggs but their vitality decreases every month.
Since time is not on their side to retrieve and store the eggs this procedure must be done immediately. April 1st they will begin the process of retrieving eggs, creating embryos, and storing for a future gestational carrier.
This long road comes with an even larger financial burden, one that on top of the past medical bills from the emergency feels almost unobtainable.
We know everyone struggles with their own hardships and heartache in life but after everything Blair & Miles have been through this almost doesn’t seem fair. To lighten their load and help the most deserving parents grow their family we’re asking for your help. Any amount of generosity will be greatly appreciated!
