Hello, all! We would love to introduce you to Texas Country Music Association members and 2024 Josie Nominees for Top Country Band of 2024, Blacktop Bloodline. We are currently raising money to complete our new 10-song album, purchase a tour bus and some new equipment. Let's get to it!
Blacktop Bloodline is an Oklahoma-based band billing as Red Dirt/Neo-Traditional. Their blue-collar backgrounds have heavily contributed to the stories they tell in the songs that they write, and they have lived every word of every song they sing in some form.
The band's founding members, Dylan Powell, Doug Powell, and Nonie Taliaferro, met just a few short weeks after Nonie rang the bell and won the battle with Breast Cancer at a private function for another musician's(mutual friend)birthday part at the famous Ole Reds Doghouse in Tishomingo Oklahoma. They found immediate rapport and started writing and collaborating. The band's first year was incredible considering all factors with 2 single releases, "Wild" and "No One Knows Me", their first headliner show at The Pontotoc County Fair, August 25 2023, and several appearances at various places in the Ft Worth Stockyard District.
Blacktop Bloodline Core Members:
Dylan Powell-Co-Front Man/Rhythm Guitarist/Songwriter
Dylan was born into music. at 23 years old, he is in his 13th year of being a working musician. Dylan started out at 10 years old as drummer for some of his father's early projects in genres such as Country, Rock, Blues, Christian Contemporary, Southern Gospel and other various projects. Dylan first appeared as front man and rhythm guitarist in a local project with his father in 2019 shortly before the Covid pandemic. The band only played 3 shows before the shut down and didn't return when the pandemic lifted.
Out of the father and son duo, despite his father's many years in the business, Dylan became the first of the 2 to become a published, copywrite protected artist with the release of the band's first song, "Wild" January 5th, 2024.
Doug Powell - Co-Front Man/Lead Guitarist/Songwriter/Composer/Producer
Doug is a man of many parts. He started his music career early in life and is closing in on 40 years total as a multi instrumentalist, songwriter, and vocalist, and almost 30 years as a working musician. Doug is the band director, produces all their music, is involved heavily in the business and promotions aspect of the band and is an all-around great guy(he forced us to put that in there!). Doug plays Fender and Epiphone guitars, uses Fender amps and Boss Effects. Doug is deeply rooted in many genres of music popular to The South, he is known for his incredible range(Baritone to 2nd Soprano) his grasp on harmony lines, and his keen ability to "play by ear" and adapt to almost any stage situation. Despite having limited use of his right leg due to a severe falling accident that changed his whole life, Doug is very animated on stage and his sole purpose when he performs is to work the crowd and give them more than they paid for, or in his words, "Under-sell, Over-deliver".
Nonie Taliaferro - Drummer/Vocalist/Songwriter Social Media Manager
Nonie Taliaferro, drummer for Blacktop Bloodline, developed a passion for music at a young age through her mother's guitar playing and singing, as well as her great uncle's participation in a western swing band and her cousins' rock band. Nonie honed her drumming skills in church alongside her family and was inspired by her great grandmother, who wrote a song for the Carter family and received a guitar in return. Determined to pursue her dreams, Nonie purchased her first drum set at 18 and taught herself to play. She has since become a successful songwriter, with one of her songs reaching the top 64 finalists in the 2006 Nashville Music City Madness hosted by Reba McEntire. Nonie is now an integral part of Blacktop Bloodline's business operations and looks forward to creating great music with her bandmates for years to come.
Cody Lane - Bass Guitar/Songwriter
Cody just started his journey with Blacktop Bloodline but ahs been a active in the Texas Local Music Scene for many years. Coming from a family of musicians, he stated playing gigs with his dad at a very young age.
We want to thank each and everyone of you for your support for this awesome project and this "leap" into the unknown!
