Hi, my name is David, and I'm reaching out for support to help save my Black-owned business, Marie Ernst. Most people understand running a business is hard, however running a business as a solo entrepreneur with debilitating and severe depression is almost impossible.

The past two years have been a journey of profound challenges for me. As the ninth child in a tight-knit family of ten, the sudden loss of my father in 2022 shook the very foundation of our unity. Facing the grief of losing a close family member for the first time, I found myself in uncharted emotional territory. This period of mourning led to an unexpected estrangement from my family, further deepening my sense of isolation. During this time, I was confronted with a reality I had never known, severe depression.

I'm fundraising not just to save Marie Ernst but also to find my way back to stability and good mental health. For anyone who understands the depth of depression's impact, you know it's not just a personal fight; it's a battle that affects every aspect of your life, including the passion projects and businesses we pour our hearts into.

This type of depression was new to me; it was an overwhelming force that made the simplest daily tasks, like getting out of bed, feel insurmountable. Yet, I recognized the necessity of seeking help. Acknowledging this need was the first step toward healing and envisioning a path forward. It's a journey I'm still on, striving each day to find new strength and hope in the face of adversity.

About Marie Ernst:

In the heart of Portland, Oregon, I was plagued with skin care problems like eczema, dry skin and psoriasis. Not finding and bar soap solutions, I started a business to help people sooth their various skin care problems like mine. My journey began with a mission to help others by creating eco-friendly bar soaps and accessories that cater to the diverse skin care and cleansing needs of everyone in our communities while reducing plastic waste.
