Help Biscuit Recover from Emergency Life-Saving Surgery

Hi everyone,

My name is Angela, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my sweet dog Biscuit — a playful, loving, and incredibly resilient pup who recently went through something terrifying and life-threatening.

Just hours after picking him up from a dog sitter, Biscuit began vomiting multiple times and became extremely lethargic. Trusting my gut, I rushed him to the emergency vet, where they performed x-rays and told me his stomach had flipped — a condition known as Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV).

GDV is fatal if not treated immediately. Biscuit needed emergency surgery to survive.

He had no prior health issues, and this came completely out of nowhere. The surgery was successful, but the cost of emergency treatment, overnight care, and follow-ups has placed a heavy financial burden on my family — especially on my stepfather, who paid the full cost out of pocket to save Biscuit’s life.

We’re currently in the process of requesting reimbursement through the care platform, but it’s uncertain if or when it will come through. In the meantime, we’re asking for any help you might be able to offer to support Biscuit’s recovery and ease the financial strain this emergency has caused.

UPDATE: We were told we’d likely qualify for reimbursement, but our claim was just denied by Rover. They classify GDV — a completely sudden and unpredictable emergency — as an exclusion. That means we’re now fully responsible for Biscuit’s $8,500 surgery, even though the sitter admitted he was already unwell before I picked him up. We’re heartbroken and frustrated, but we’re not giving up on helping Biscuit recover

Biscuit has never had any prior health issues. He’s strong, sweet, and still recovering — with medications, follow-up visits, and a special diet required to make sure he stays safe and stable. I’ll be posting updates here on how he’s doing and sharing some of his recovery photos too
