Update: I’m so excited to share that I’ve received an incredibly generous donation outside of GoFundMe that’s going directly toward my travel and competition expenses! I’m beyond grateful for all the support I’ve received and I’ve adjusted the fundraiser goal to reflect this gift. I’m still fundraising to cover the remaining costs (flights, lodging, meals, and additional meets). Every bit helps and I appreciate all the love so far!

Hi, my name is Birgen Nelson, and I’ve officially been selected to represent Team USA at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany this July!
This will be my first time representing the United States on an international stage, and I’m incredibly excited and honored for the opportunity. However, in order to compete, I’m required to cover a “Cost of Participation” that unfortunately won’t be funded by my university or by Team USA. That means I need to raise the full amount myself.
As an unfunded athlete, I’m reaching out for support to help make this dream a reality. I’ve dedicated my life to track and field, specifically the 100-meter hurdles, and moments like this are what all the early mornings, long training sessions, and sacrifices are for. Some of my achievements include: 3x NCAA DIII National Champion, NCAA Woman of the Year Honoree, ACC Bronze Medalist, and a current personal best of 13.15 seconds in the 100m hurdles.
Competing at the World University Games would not only be a huge honor, but a major step forward in my track and field journey.
My fundraising goal is $3,595 to help cover:
Team USA participation fee: approx. $2,595
Flights: estimated $1,000
Any remaining funds will go toward other international competitions this season across Europe!
If you’re able to support, whether through a donation or simply sharing this, I’d be deeply grateful. Every bit of support helps bring me closer to the start line in Germany, wearing “USA” across my chest for the very first time.
Thank you so much for believing in me and for being part of this exciting journey to Rhine-Ruhr 2025!
— Birgen
