Our relative Bird Red and his family need our support. Bird’s beloved indoor cat, Haku, was attacked by dogs and the veterinary bills to keep him alive are a burden beyond what they can carry on their own at this time. Let’s show Bird and his family some love by giving what we can.

You may know Bird as the musician, Cousy, or from the film “Spirit of the Peaks”, or as a young leader on the Southern Ute Reservation who just made the Dean’s list in his first year at Fort Lewis. However you know him, he is someone who brightens everyone’s day and radiates charisma and joy. Haku has been the little four legged family member who has brightened Bird’s days since he was a boy.

Haku escaped his usual cozy and safe spot inside on July 18th and was attacked by dogs. Haku suffered punctures, contusions, and bruises that led to him being in critical condition and staying in the veterinary hospital overnight. Upon returning home for a few days Haku’s condition worsened because he couldn’t eat on his own yet. Bird and his family had to take him back to the hospital so he could have a catheter and feeding tube put in for another period of hospitalization while he recovers more. Haku will survive if he can get the help he needs.

Bird is giving his bestie, Haku, every chance he can to survive. However the costs of multiple treatments are expected to be over $15,000 and Bird who is currently a college student is not able to afford this type of urgent care. So far he and his family have spent nearly $10,000 that they do not have to keep their four legged family member alive.

“We need to keep him in the hospital so that he can receive the proper care in hopes that he is strong enough where he would be able to return home and recover. But with new problems from the recent diagnostic we know we need the vets help and we know the bills are gonna stack so fast.”

Any money you give will go to Bird Red and his father Tim, who many of us know and love as a great singer at ceremonies and powwows across Colorado and the southwest. They will use the funds to pay the veterinary bills and pay back what they’ve borrowed from relatives to cover the costs so far.
