Help Bipin Restore Hope for His Community

Bipin Lama hosts many visitors and travelers to his village in Nepal. I met Bipin in 2015 for my travel abroad during my undergraduate. Bipin is a very stable support network for his family, and village of Gatlang, Nepal.

Here is part of his facebook post where I was informed of this catastrophic disaster in his village:

"This week Nepal witnessed heavy rainfall triggering landslides and flooding across many parts of the country. Latest update reveals the death of as many as 192 people died with 32 still missing. Huge flooding occured in Kathmandu, the capital of the country, as rivers spilled over banks into streets and homes causing 56 deaths alone. My hometown Rasuwa district Gatlang Village was no exception. The flood from Parbati kunda Lake swept away and damaged houses and farms including mine. The tourist My Homestay Tamang Home I operate has also suffered damages which might affect my business at the very start of the tourist season in Nepal."

Bipin has asked more monetary support to move through this damage, restructure and rebuild the homes that were taken away.

He states:

"I am looking for some one for creating fundraiser through gofundme to provide relief to many people from my village who are in a similar situation. We are out of electricity and internet. I am totally at a loss and helpless. Thank fully, we are safe. Thank you and please take care. Best regards Bipin Lama"

My time with Bipin, although long ago, is still very memorable. His sense of humor brings the community together, and his strength to persevere through the 2015 earthquake, the pandemic, and now this mudslide is remarkable. I experienced some of the most profound moments of my life in Gatlang, and I will never forget them. Providing others with the opportunity to experience this extremely rural environment—with its different traditions, religion, and social and political practices—is something that needs to continue for reflection.
