In the early hours of 26th September 2025, Barangay Bilwang, Kawayan and the island of Biliran in the Philippines were severely devastated by Typhoon Opong. We tragically lost 4 lives that day, and those who survived have been changed forever. Most homes in the village were swept away by floodwaters and landslides, families (including many of my own relatives) have been displaced, and are left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Bilwang is my mother’s home village and one of my favourite places in the world. We are devastated and totally broken hearted. While our community has endured typhoons before, none have ever caused destruction like this, ever. This is the worst disaster our beautiful home has seen in its history.
Right now, the community of Bilwang urgently needs food, clean water, and clothing. But in the long term, significant financial support will be needed to rebuild homes and livelihoods. While we are doing what we can as a family, we are unable to meet the needs of our people without support. If you have even $5 to spare, it can make a real difference in helping Bilwang recover and rebuild from the ground up. Please consider donating what you are able to.
I also want to acknowledge that many other communities across the Philippines have been deeply affected by Typhoon Opong. If your situation allows, I encourage you to also consider donating to other initiatives to further support affected communities across the Philippines affected by Typhoon Opong's destruction.
All funds raised here will be collected by me and sent directly to Bilwang where they will be distributed within the community to those most in need.
On behalf of my family and the people of Bilwang, thank you for any support you can give.
Daghang daghang salamat kaayo sa inyong suporta.
