Help Billy Preston Recover from a Devastating Hit-and-Run Accident
___________________________________________________________
Story:
On Sunday, August 3, 2025, around 4 PM, my brother Billy Preston was involved in a horrific hit-and-run accident right in front of our parents’ home in Upland, CA—where he also lives. Billy was working under his Toyota Tacoma truck when a driver in a Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of it.
The impact was so severe that it pushed his truck forward, running Billy over and dragging him nearly 5 feet, before hitting the car parked in front—pinning Billy underneath.
The driver never stopped. He fled the scene immediately—leaving my brother severely injured in the street, pinned under the truck. Thankfully, a neighbor’s Ring camera captured enough footage to help police track the driver’s location, and with this, Upland PD located and arrested the suspect just around the block. Sadly, the driver had no insurance.
Billy was rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital’s trauma unit, where he was hospitalized for 12 days. The extent of his injuries is overwhelming:
His injuries include:
• Compound fracture to his left arm involving 4 bones
o Required orthopedic surgery with pins, rods, and a graft
o A blood vac was attached to manage swelling
• Severely broken wrist and four damaged fingers on his left hand
o Required a hand specialist to repair ligaments and tendons with pins and rods
• Fractured right pelvis
o Repaired with a rod and screw
• Lacerations to his cheek, ear, and neck, requiring multiple stitches
• Severe road rash on his back, legs, and face, which required deep cleaning to remove debris and prevent infection
What’s next:
Billy has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He’ll need extensive physical therapy, and we’re holding onto hope that he’ll regain full use of his left hand and wrist. Right now, we don’t know how long he’ll be out of work, and his medical costs are still unknown.
