Recently my dear friend Michelle Arcamuzi nearly lost her husband, Billy Csencsits, in a mountain biking accident . While he was fortunate to survive, he is now a C-5 quadriplegic.
One moment, Billy and Michelle were a two-career couple where one stayed with the kids while the other flew a trip and everyone was healthy. The next moment, they became a one-income and one-caregiver family with serious special medical needs.
However, this story does not have to end in despair. Billy and Michelle, while sad, have hope and are already throwing themselves into the hard work that overcoming debilitating injury takes. Billy works *hard* every day, all day, at his rehab hospital. Michelle splits time between taking care of their children in Phoenix, spending weekends with Billy in Denver, and flying as a United 787 First Officer out of LAX.
Despite their resolute dedication, they simply cannot get through this alone. On top of medical bills and loss of Billy’s income as a 777 Captain for Kalitta, every aspect of their lives has changed. Their child care and health care situations are drastically different. It is not yet clear what kind of mobility and in-home care Billy will require. We don’t know what other expenses may arise as time goes on.
Please consider a donation to this Go Fund Me to support this hard-working couple who had their lives upended in an instant. With help I believe this tragedy will become an inspiration and story of hope for all of us.
A note: whether or not you choose to donate, please contact me if you have any experience with parapalegic injuries, lifestyles, estate and financial planning for special needs families, service animals, or any other resource that may be helpful to Billy and Michelle. In addition, if you live in Denver or find yourself there with a little time, please consider a visit. Weekends are best.
