Hello and thank you to anyone who takes the time to read my story. My name is Bill. I have a wonderful wife named Jess. I have three amazing children named Darryn, Abygail, and Myrabella. We live in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. I am writing this out of pure desperation and am asking for any type of help we can get.
All of our children have developmental disabilities. Darryn has autism, ODD, and ADHD. Abygail has autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Bella has autism, ADHD, ARFID, anxiety, and selective mutism. We go to multiple therapies every week for Bella. Darryn just graduated high school. Aby and Bella are homeschooled by my wife. They cannot do public school due to their disabilities. We are constantly searching for new resources to help give them all the care they desperately need.
Financially, this has been a roller coaster. I have worked extremely hard to be able to provide for my family over the years with a safe, loving home of our own and meet our needs. I do not have a degree, but I was able to advance professionally through my efforts and acquire a six-figure job that had my family set for life. I had extremely high hopes of being able to provide our children a great start to their future. I wanted to get them set up with a college fund, help them buy their first vehicles, and teach them how to handle money responsibly.
My dream job had an extremely unfortunate ending. I signed an NDA with the company that terminated me, but a wrongful termination lawsuit was filed. This was settled out of court. The settlement, however, was barely enough to even get me caught up from the curtailment of income. I had already cashed out my 401(k), and only began to fall into deep debt. I found a new job, but it wasn't enough. I started out making 40% of what I would have been making at my dream job. This is where all the financial hardships multiplied exponentially.
401(k) gone. Settlement completely spent. All to keep the lights on, the water running, the house paid, and the vehicles paid. Started cutting back on practically everything, including food. We made too much for government assistance. Social Security stated that my children are not disabled enough to provide assistance to us. I took a new position at the company that I got my newest job with. This gave us a little bit more money, but again, nowhere near where we needed to be. I did this in conjunction with DoorDash when I wasn't working (and even sometimes when I was) in order to help pay some of the bills. We paid our bills based on what was going to be lost next. The water has a shut-off notice, I have to pay that one with this paycheck. The electric bill has a disconnection notice, I have to pay this one with this paycheck. This car is about to be repossessed? Here's this paycheck. Oh wait, now this car is too? It's okay, they told us it would be repossessed in 13 days, so it can wait. The bank account is constantly at 0. I started paying bills strategically so that I would only incur one overdraft fee. I thought about selling my car in order to help get caught up, but between working, DoorDashing, and my wife needing to take our children to so many different therapies and appointments, that would be impossible.
Recently, I found a new job. This salary puts me at about 50% of what I was making at my dream job. It helped buy a little bit more food, and my family to struggle just a little bit less. The job is not conducive to family life, and it is only increasing our family struggles. The struggle of paying the bills or buying food remained. Things are constantly threatened to be taken away or shut off. The money is never enough.
All while trying to keep the utilities paid for and the food on the table, the mortgage was not able to be paid. I fell behind thousands and thousands of dollars. I just tried to buy more time so I could make a payment without losing a car, power, water, or food, as they all took precedence over anything else. I've recently learned that my home has been put in pre-foreclosure. I'm attempting to reinstate the mortgage, but I'll need to make a lump sum payment of approximately $6,000. There's no way for me to be able to make up this amount of money while keeping everything else that we need.
I'm asking, pleading for help. My family, especially my children, would be completely devastated if we were to be evicted from our house. Change for them is not good, and this level of change would be absolutely detrimental to their physical and mental well-being. I am searching through resources to help, including county assistance homeowner programs, to see if they can assist with stalling the foreclosure process. I know this will only buy us time, and the issue will remain. I'm trying to raise money for my family's well-being, for my family's health, for my family's happiness, and for my family's future.
Please help our family. Any donation would be extremely helpful and appreciated.
