Hi my name is Billie and I am a trans woman from North Carolina seeking gender affirming surgery after my state health plan abruptly changed without warning on October 21st, 2025. An injunction was previously put on the state by a judge in 2022 making the state provide gender affirming care. That was vacated allowing the ban to be reinstated, providing me no notice or communication.

On October 7th my procedure was approved by the state health plan and was scheduled for November 4th, 2025. On October 23rd, I received a new letter now suddenly denying me of the coverage. What previously would have costed me my OOP max deductible (roughly $4,800) had now ballooned to $44,000. This drastic change happened in a mere matter of days.

Your support would allow me to reach my goal and hopefully still allow me to keep my current surgery date. If I don’t meet my goal by the date needed, I will keep this open until I am able to achieve my goal.
