Help Bill with Housing While Fighting Cancer
Donation protected
Hi my name is Kristi and I am Bill's daughter. This picture of me with my Dad is from my September 2019 wedding. A little over a year later, my Dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer.
Since Bill also has diabetes and a heart condition, over the last 3 years he has been in and out of the hospital. I have taken care of him through tumor removal surgery, wound care, diabetes management, pain management and endless emergency room visits.
Bill has been in the same apartment for close to 10 years and now is facing eviction after continuous harassment by his landlord.
Damage from the flooded unit above him caused a large part of his ceiling to collapse in the kitchen. He lived in these conditions for 8 months with the landlord constantly ignoring his requests for repairs. Bill was hesitant to reach out to the town building inspector in fear his landlord would retaliate. By March 2023, we had enough of the damage and contacted the town.
Repairs were finally made, but the harassment did not stop and, just as we feared, is now causing Bill to get evicted. Even though my father has terminal cancer, diabetes, a heart condition and can't walk very far, none of the lists for housing have waits shorter than YEARS. Most financial assisted housing, even if elderly or disabled, have years long waits or are completely closed to new applicants. He has been on a couple lists since 2023 when these issues began. The shortest wait list he is on has 18 people who need to be placed BEFORE he would have an apartment. Since he is disabled, he does not have enough funds to rent an average apartment.
We are asking for donations so Bill can stay in a hotel or motel until a more stable housing situation can be found. Due to the side effects of chemo, he can't share a bathroom with anyone leaving him few options of places to stay.
