Help Bill Remain at Home Until He Can Get In Assisted Living
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Karen. I am starting the GoFundMe page for my uncle Bill (William Mackey) As some of you know on May 29, 2025 Billy left work early drove to the hospital where he was admittedfor his congestive heart failure, and COPD, which was causing him to experience difficulty breathing , his carbon dioxide was at an extremely toxic level causing him to be in and out of consciousness. The hospital did all they could do for him and that Sunday June 1st things took a turn for the worst. Sunday morning, he was intubated placed on a ventilator and in a medically induced, for nine days.
June 10, after 9 long days the doctors were finally able to get him off of the ventilator and placed on a BiPAP machine. His breathing was still not great. He had no strength in his body. He could not walk or talk for the first few days.
Today June 16, he remains in
stable condition at Central DuPage Hospital. He is doing better day by day and getting his strength back he will soon be sent to MarionJoy rehab facility for a few weeks!
Before this tragic day in May, Billy was working full-time for American mattress. Even with his health conditions and his health deteriorating month by month, he went to work every day just so he could pay his bills and keep a roof over his head. His biggest fear is dying alone, outside and homeless.
As his condition slowly improves, we are still very unsure if he will ever be able to work again. We are in the process of applying for disability and low income housing, but as we all know, these things take time months and months of time before they will all fall into place.
The past few months have been extremely hard for Billy to get back-and-forth to work with hospital stays becoming a regular thing for him. He fell behind on his bills he his was missing a lot of work he hasn’t paid his rent in two months and today he received a call from his landlord telling him that he will need to move out if he cannot catch up on the back rent this week. He used every penny in his bank account $450 to pay his health insurance so that he can get to rehab and get the help he needs to get back to himself.
We don’t know what the future holds, but we are asking for help for his bills, food, rent and a caregiver for the next few months until he can get on Social Security disability and eventually into a supportive living community.
If you know Billy, you know he would do anything he could for anybody and has his entire life. The last few years have been very trying for him, but we hope his friends and family will come together to help him get back on his feet and remain in his apartment until we figure out the supportive living situation.
Thank you all ❤️
