Help Bill Noonan find safe housing

Donation protected
UPDATE 3/26/2024

Wanted to let you all know that Bill Noonan passed away peacefully last night 3/25/24. He’s been in an assisted living facility for the past year, and as his physical state deteriorated, he decided he didn’t want to continue. We got him admitted to hospice and they made sure he was comfortable during this transition. We all visited him throughout the week and told him how much everyone loves and supports him. Molly was with him a few hours before he passed and he was very comfortable. Friends like you meant the world to him. I'll write an obit and put it on Facebook in the coming days.

UPDATES from 2022-2023

Urgent financial help needed for temporary housing!
THANKS TO YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS in August 2022 we found Bill temporary month-to-month housing with a lovely lady here in Petaluma, who agreed to be his caregiver for six months. That situation is coming to an end January 31st and we are now exploring options for a similar situation awaiting his placement in an Assisted Living facility which will be completely covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
Assisted Living: The State has still not sent Bill his expedited waiver for housing. We are awaiting notification that he has been accepted into the program we will still have to find an available bed for him at one of the facilities, which could take more time. We are asking for help to supplement Bill’s need for housing assistance until he can be placed. Any help you can provide will go directly for rent/caregiving month to month until Bill finds an Assisted living approval and placement.

About Us

Hi there, my name is Jackson. My sister Molly and mother, Carole Coates Herzog and I, are fundraising for Bill Noonan. He is our close family friend and has always been like an uncle to me.

Intro:

At 80 years old, Bill is facing tough times after a recent health setback. With limited housing options available for Seniors in Sonoma County and only minimal Social Security to support him, we are turning to friends and former colleagues to help him get back on his feet. With limited mobility, he’s no longer able to work in his beloved antique business. He is currently housed in a marginal Board and Care home in Sacramento under dismal conditions. We are committed to finding him a shared rental, a room and bath, in something like a Senior mobile home residence near us in Petaluma so he can find community and enjoy life again. We hope that his friend group in the antique world and others from his life can help him afford a simple bedroom setup, car repair, and food, and to subsidize rent in a safe place that is currently beyond his means.

About Bill:

Bill is quite a Southern gentleman and shares his kindness with everyone he meets. He is sharp, witty and hilarious for those that deeply know him. Bill has been through a lot, emotionally and physically, in his life, but he has always been there for others. You might not know that his history goes deep and is incredibly unique. As a counter-culture figure and one of Hunter S. Thompson’s lifelong friends, he partook in many events in Aspen and beyond. Below is one of the iconic posters from their campaign.

A Tom Benton designed poster; the slogan reads “Let Noonan Do It”

The risks right now:

Bill cannot afford basic housing
• Isolated in a subpar facility
• Far from family & friends

What we’ll do with the donations:

• Help with Rent for a year
• Simple bedroom set up: twin bed, desk, dresser
• Food: easy to cook meals from Trader Joe’s, etc
• Car repair: deferred maintenance, tires

Bill Noonan was always looking out for his friends, from an eccentric Hunter S. Thompson to his colleagues, for my mother and myself. Always selflessly doing things for others. We’ve let Noonan do it; now it’s our turn!

We’d appreciate any possible donation! Bill is a proud man but he admits he could use any help he can get right now. I know he has plenty of friends that are still around that love and respect him. We will do the groundwork of finding him a place, getting him settled and setup, and of course will donate all our time and efforts. Message us if you have any questions.
