Help Bill move forward after Dorothy's passing

I'm Wendy, and I'm raising funds for my sister's partner, Bill, as he transitions from 20 years as his mom's caretaker to, well, whatever comes next. (Why me and not my sister? As you may already know, Julie is fighting cancer, so I offered to help out.)

Bill's mom, Dorothy (shown here getting a haircut), passed away on January 30, and he is facing funeral expenses as well as taking on sole responsibility for the home they shared - and Ben, her beloved 10-year-old Shih Tzu (that's him below).

But this shift is bigger than immediate expenses; Bill has been taking care of his mom full-time since he was 23 - most of his adult life. He will need support as he seeks a new job, gets his truck into shape for commuting, and makes needed repairs to his home.

More specifically, Bill has immediate financial needs: the heat isn't working in half of the house; his truck needs about $1,500 in welding work; and he is splitting funeral expenses with his sisters (who are not local). That's on top of taking on the housing expenses, getting insurance on the truck, and all the other "life" costs that we all know too well.

On a personal note, supporting Bill is important to me in part because he is such a huge support for Julie. He has been by her side the whole time, accompanying her to medical appointments, helping her through chemo, keeping her sane with walks in the woods, drives to the beach, etc. - and helping fill the gaps in her household while she hasn't been able to do it all. He deserves all the support we can collectively give him.

Dorothy was born March 28, 1944 in Colorado Springs, CO to the late Jack and Alice Pottenger. She was predeceased in death by her husband Robert A. Lauritzen, her sister Evelyn, and her brothers Richard, Donald, and Clifford. Dorothy is survived by her children Jane (Lester) Sjoblom of Arkansas, Teresa (Richard) Ouellette of North Dakota, and William Lauritzen and his girlfriend Julie Sawyer of Connecticut, grandchildren Victor, Simona, Arianna, Seth and Luke, and 2 great grandchildren, Reece and Finley.
