Help Bill Hillman and His Family Fight Cancer

If you know Bill Hillman, you know that he is the person you call when you need help—and he is the person who shows up.

Bill is a devoted husband, father, firefighter, and friend who has spent his life putting others before himself. Now, for the first time, Bill and his family are the ones who need our help.

Bill and his wife, Sue, have been married for 20 years and have built a beautiful family together with their three children: Grace, 21, Nate, 15, and Abby, 10. Family has always been at the center of Bill’s world. He is an incredible husband and father who works hard to provide for his family and never hesitates to put their needs ahead of his own.

Bill and Sue have also always believed in giving back to their community. They have been active in local sports organizations, coaching and supporting kids and families, and playing APA Pool. But perhaps nowhere has Bill given more of himself than through his service as a volunteer firefighter with Quaker Valley Fire District and as a Captain with Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Bill and Sue are the kind of people who never ask for help themselves, but they are almost always the first people to offer it to someone else.

Now, they are facing something no family ever wants to hear: Bill has recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

His road ahead will be difficult. Bill will undergo chemoradiation therapy followed by major surgery, with additional treatment and recovery expected along the way. This will require significant time away from work—not only for Bill, but also for Sue as she helps care for him and their children.

The medical bills have already begun to pile up, including copays and other expenses, and there is another difficult reality: when Bill cannot work, that also means lost income for the family.

For a family that has spent years helping everyone else, this is the time when they need their community to come together for them.

We are asking friends, family, firefighters, teammates, neighbors, and anyone whose life Bill has touched to consider helping the Hillman family through this difficult chapter.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will help. Contributions will go toward medical copays, treatment-related expenses, household bills, and helping replace some of the income lost while Bill and Sue are away from work.
