My dad, Bill Good, had a seizure on Wednesday 3/25 while standing in the kitchen at home. He was transported to UPMC Lititz by ambulance after being sedated and stabilized by paramedics. He had a CT performed in the ER that revealed a large tumor on the front left part of his brain. He was then transferred to UPMC Harrisburg for their neuro surgery team. He spent the next few days on steroids and medications to keep him from having a seizure while he waited for surgery on Monday morning. The surgical team could not be sure if the tumor was malignant or not and could not tell if they would be able to retrieve the whole tumor during the surgery. The waiting time felt very torturous for my dad as he had a lot of anxiety and does not like sitting in a hospital.
Fortunately, after about nine hours of surgery on Monday, the surgeon told my mom he believes he was able to remove all of the tumor and that he also thinks it was a benign meningioma! He sent it out for pathology that will take 1-2 weeks to return and give us some better answers. The tumor was so large and adhered to the brain that he believes it was there for 10-15 years! This explains so many random symptoms my dad had been having but never had a reason for.
My dad is his households primary source of income. He started a brand new job Monday morning of the same week he had the seizure. There is some uncertainty of how long his recovery will be and if his job will be there for him when he is able to return to work. Because he was only at his job for 3 days, he does not qualify for any short term disability or their insurance. My parents are on a high deductible insurance plan and will have a large out of pocket expense to cover following an emergency visit and brain surgery. My mom has not been working so she can attend to my dad. He also will not be able to drive for at least 3 months following this seizure. I have set up this gofundme to ease some financial burden for my parents as they navigate my dads healing and recovery. The funds raised through this link will pay for bills, gas money, food, and hospital bills while my dad is out of work. Thank you for your prayers and generosity! We are thankful for our village!
