Life threw an unexpected curve ball at Bill. Recently Bill, 74, was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer, and is facing an out-of-the-blue health crises that none of us could have anticipated. Palliative chemotherapy cannot cure him, but it can return him to his home and reduce his symptoms.

As you know, Bill’s dedication to our community is without peer. In the past 12 years, Bill devoted himself to an exemplary life of selfless public service. He single-handedly founded Baystate Reentry Network (https://baystatereentrynetwork.org/). In direct support and advocacy for released prisoners, Bill filled a yawning gap in our justice system. He brought his skills and heart as a paralegal and former inmate to lawyers, social workers, parole and probation officials to reduce returning citizen recidivism. The good his work has done is incalculable.

As you may not know, Bill lives frugally and far below the poverty line on a fixed income of social security and SNAP benefits. Now, with significant medical treatment and physical disability, Bill’s previous ability to add to his income is severely threatened and his financial need dire. This is where we, as a community, can step in and make a meaningful difference.
