My brother Bill is a creative and brilliant man who has never had the chance he deserves to shine. He has been through more than 25 years of severe, treatment-resistant depression. It has cost him more than most people can see: work stability, confidence, structure, momentum, and hope. But he never stops trying and has, time and time again. He’s fought through innumerable therapies, treatments, and hospitalizations, and right now, he has a real chance to move forward.
After undergoing a very difficult and brave course of treatment to stabilize himself, he has been taking proactive steps like never before. He's been accepted into a 10-week training program to become a drug and alcohol counselor. Completing this program could open the door to a new and meaningful career, one where he can use his life experience, compassion, and hard-won understanding to help others. This is the kind of opportunity we have been hoping for: specific, structured, time-limited, and connected to meaningful and well-paid employment.
But he can't work while in the training. So, he needs a few months runway of living expenses, so that the financial stress can recede and he can concentrate on the opportunity ahead. The funds raised here will go toward transportation, food, basic living expenses, therapy or medical support. This is not an open-ended request. It is a focused sprint with a clear goal: help him complete the training, earn the credential, and begin moving toward paid work in a field where his life experience can become a gift to others.
Any amount can make a difference as we help him stay in the program, keep going, and finish what he is starting. Thank you for believing in his next chapter and helping him take this brave step toward stability, purpose, and a new career.
