hi everyone, my name is gia, and i’m fundraising for my sweet 12 year old chihuahua, biko. if you know biko, you know he’s beaten the odds his whole life. he’s tiny but mighty, full of puppy-like energy, and has always had the happiest little spirit. he’s my shadow, my emotional support, and truly my fur son.
on december 4th, everything changed. biko suddenly had a large amount of blood in his stool. in the days before, he had barely been eating and was unusually lethargic. i knew immediately something was very wrong. we rushed him to the emergency vet, where they found his blood pressure was dangerously low (only 60), his gums were pale, and his PCV (packed cell volume) was 16, which is a sign that he was actively losing blood and bleeding internally.
after x-rays and an ultrasound, they were thankfully able to rule out tumors or masses. the vets believe the cause is a severe stomach ulcer from a medication he started last month called piroxicam. biko was admitted for monitoring and IV fluids, and by the next day (december 5th), he was stable but not improving. his care had already exceeded $1,000, and the vet recommended trying a homeopathic medication called yunnan baiyao to help slow the internal bleeding.
we prayed this would work so we could avoid a blood transfusion, another $1,000 expense, but on december 6th, his PCV dropped even further to 12. at that point, he needed a transfusion to survive. i authorized it because i couldn’t just sit and watch him fade away.
thankfully, the transfusion was successful & his PCV rose to 24, still low but double what it was, and his blood pressure improved. he even had enough strength to eat, which was a huge relief after refusing food for days. the vets continued to monitor him closely to see whether he would stabilize or continue losing blood.
as of today, december 7th, i’m waiting for the next update to find out if his levels have remained steady or if he will need another transfusion.
i’m doing everything i can for him, but the truth is i’m struggling to afford his care, and i’m not ready to give up on him. he’s fighting so hard, and i want to fight with him.
that’s why i’m starting this gofundme. every donation, no matter how big or small, helps keep biko alive and gives him a chance to heal. even if you can’t donate, sharing this means more than you know.
thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping my boy during the hardest moment of his life!!!
