A couple of months ago, Mr. Cyril Robinson aka BIGG SHOW was delivered devastating and very frightening news —a diagnosis of Stage 4 colon cancer. In just a short time, the cancer metastasized (which means it has spread throughout his body) to his lungs and liver. He is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy, infusion treatments, and daily medications. All of which are taking a toll on him and his energy levels.
It goes without saying that this is truly a difficult time for BIGG SHOW. Especially being here in Charleston alone, without his family. His mother, Ms. Robinson (a retired Courtney School teacher in downtown Charleston), has transitioned joining her Lord and Savior in Heaven, leaving her only child. All BIGG SHOW’s aunts and uncles have transitioned on as well. His closest family member is many miles away in Iowa.
I believe that we can all do our part and support BIGG SHOW during this delicate time. After all, BIGG SHOW has ALWAYS shown up for all our communities throughout South Carolina. He didn’t acquire the infamous name “BIGG SHOW” for nothing! He earned it through all the hard work, dedication, love, and support he gives to the communities, businesses, non-profit organizations, educational institutes, families, and people all around South Carolina, and as a loyal, active member of the Mt. Zion AME Church (the daughter church of Mother Emmanuel AME Church). BIGG SHOW was the area’s “social media” for years before all the current social media platforms came about.
During the pandemic, BIG SHOW was getting the word out to people and families in need about special programs, holiday giveaways, food and clothes giveaways, school supplies and uniform giveaways, job listings, rental and utility bill assistance, etc. You name it – BIGG SHOW had the information for you. BIGG SHOW would always humbly say, “I’m doing it because it needs to be done.” And still today, he is doing just that all while fighting for his health and battling Stage 4 cancer on top of trying to make ends meet now having the unfortunate stress and worry about paying for the VERY HIGH cost of chemotherapy, medication, infusion treatment, hospital, and emergency room bills, doctor bills, etc. Without a doubt, BIGG SHOW has always made it easy for all of us to find the information and resources we need in times of trouble. In return, we truly need to show up, do our part, and give to BIGG SHOW…the same way he has done for many without questions.
BIGG SHOW lives by the motto, “If I can help somebody as I pass this way, then my living shall not be in vain.”
Recognized for his true love, dedication, and hard work serving the community and for all of the many incredible hats he wears/has worn --Addiction Counselor for the Charleston County Substance Abuse Commission, an Appraiser for the City of Charleston Assessor’s Office, a Phlebotomist at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC); Lab Manager in the Trident Technical College Biology Department-- BIGG SHOW was awarded various honorary awards: SC House Resolution Award presented by SC Representative Wendell Gilliard; City of North Charleston Proclamation Award presented by Mayor R. Keith Summey; City of Charleston Proclamation Award presented by Mayor John Tecklenburg. All, for his many years of dedicated service to the people of South Carolina—giving tirelessly of himself to the betterment and welfare of others, and for always enhancing the lives of others and all who crossed his path.
Going on 28 years, BIGG SHOW is still the biology department Lab Manager at The Citadel Military College. Another fact about BIGG SHOW is that he is the FIRST Black person to hold the Lab Manager position in The Citadel Military College’s Biology Department!
For the past 24 years, BIGG SHOW has been delivering the latest hits and information on radio stations (Z93jamz FM, Magic 107.3 FM, WTMA 1250 AM, and 95SX FM) as a liaison for community affairs and promotions.
Now, more than ever BIGG SHOW needs our love, support, and assistance. We all can come together and give. To date, he already has $50,000 in medical bills. The money raised will be used to cover his outstanding medical bills as well as his current and upcoming cost for cancer treatments, chemotherapy, medication, doctor and hospital bills, and medical bills.
Please donate any amount you can and join the great-spirited “I DO IT BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE DONE” team for BIGG SHOW!
