Meet Bibi. Just yesterday, I ran into this sweetheart. I was stepping outside to do my laundry when I found this sweet girl laying beside my sliding door. I noticed she had a couple of injuries, but I didn’t know how severe they were. When I opened my sliding door to check on her, she immediately ran into my apartment, meowing up a storm. I directed her to my bathroom, and that’s where I got a better look at her wounds. She was super sweet and willing to be examined, and after seeing the severity of her injuries, I picked up a crate from a friend nearby and brought the cat to the emergency vet.
Upon arriving, the veterinarian scanned for a chip, and no chip was found. They then looked at her injuries and let me know my options. They said I could either leave her there to get treated and then put up for adoption, or I could take responsibility. I didn’t have the heart to give up such a sweet girl, so I decided to take responsibility. They gave her some pain meds and placed her and me in a room. They drew blood to test for any infections/viruses (which came back negative), took x-rays (which showed no broken bones or abnormalities), and then they began shaving around her wounds and cleaning them. During this entire time, she was the absolute sweetest to everyone and wasn’t fussy.
I asked them what they thought had happened and for an estimate on how long she’s had these wounds. They speculate that all her wounds are burns and that they’ve been unattended for a few days, but they’re unsure where she could have been to get them. They believe it could have been from her being stuck in an engine or even stuck between an outside AC unit, but it’s unsure. Most of her wounds were cleaned and treated, but the one on her hind left leg was pretty severe. That hind leg had been burned so badly it had seared through her muscle, and the skin began lifting and creating a pocket. They ended up having to trim any dead tissue in that area and sutured her muscle, then the tissue under her skin, and then her skin.
After getting her cleaned and treated, I waited in a room for her to wake up. At around 10 pm, they gave me all her meds/creams, and we were discharged and ready to go home. I come here asking for help with her vet bill so I am able to put more of my funds towards getting her set up in my apartment and giving her the life she deserves.
