Ivelisse (also known as Bibi to her loved ones) has dedicated her life to organizing her community. Now, it's time for her community to organize around Bibi.
Bibi, her mother, and her grandmother all contracted COVID-19. Several weeks ago, Bibi's beloved grandmother, Agustina Guzmán, passed away. Bibi has been caretaker for herself and her family during this time. She and her family have been hit hard by new expenses related to healthcare and her grandma's passing. Bibi is still ill and still caring for her mother, while grieving the loss of her grandma.
Many of us are struggling right now, which makes it more important than ever to support each other. If you have the capacity, please consider donating to help Bibi's family get through this crisis. We hope to see you out there fighting with us on the other side.
Because we cannot have funerals or other gatherings, Bibi is grieving her grandma Agustina on her own.

"It’s hard to put into words what grandma instilled in me... she was my rock, eccentric for her generation and with a strong sense of community. She came from a bloodline of storytellers, people who enjoyed laughter and called injustices by their name. I learned to be fierce because of her, but also learned the importance of connection. She showed a different understanding of what’s essential. She cut sugar cane for cents at the age of six and with a second-grade education had a world of wisdom.
My grandmother was a tender-warrior and her hardship never removed that gentle smile which always embraces me."
