The Influence
We all have our pandemic stories. For me, I was 30 years old with two babies under two years old, including an immunocompromised newborn. My husband and I were stuck without help, without breaks, without sleep. You know, it's the classic "new parent" experience. Except it wasn't.
The nuance of having a health compromised newborn in the midst of a pandemic created a situation of extremes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I wasn’t the only new parent who was emotionally and mentally exhausted. Nor was I the only mother in tears regarding body image, shame, mom guilt, and so forth. Heck, even without children I’m sure many of you can relate to these issues. In my case, the isolation of being a stay at home mom was compounded by the isolation of pandemic precautions, especially when it came to my son. This left me with no outside resources and my entire existence revolved around my two children. I felt absolutely lost in regards to caring for myself. Mind, body, and soul, I became an empty shell.
I knew I had to do something to reignite my sense of self and sense of purpose. I had to really consider what was accessible to me in the midst of a pandemic while juggling children. Squeezing in self care and healthy habits can be difficult for anyone, especially busy people! Eventually, I arrived at yoga, something in which I had previously found success.
I began anew. I was sure it would be a long journey to recover the physical progress I had lost, rebuilding my practice from the bottom. However, I found that approaching yoga from a holistic place allowed me to hear the instructor's messages of self-love, resulting in strengthening from the inside out.
I progressed faster than I had in my prior years of yoga; after six weeks surpassing all of my former milestones. Physically, I am stronger and have more stamina than ever before. More notably, my development is motivated by an authentic desire to better my entire being. The reclamation of my personal power is a profound experience that is nothing shy of a spiritual awakening. I am a happier wife, a more present friend, and a more capable parent.
I want to guide others on their path to embetterment by offering mindful routines that are accessible to even the busiest and weariest of people. I want to support you in achieving your goals, whether in person or from the comfort of your home.
The Cause
My ask is, if so inclined, that my community offer the support I need to obtain my Yoga Teacher Training Certificate so that I may, in turn, offer support to others on their own path to empowerment. As a stay at home mom, I have not been accumulating any income of my own. Funds donated to my cause will be used to obtain my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate at a Yoga Alliance Registered location.
These programs cost on average between 4-6 thousand USD and cover the educational program, room, and board. Upon receiving the necessary funds, I will pay for enrollment to a full time course. This certificate will enable me to teach safely and effectively with in-depth knowledge regarding yogic techniques, philosophies, and physical physiology. While I intend to offer my services to anyone looking to improve their inner and outer world, I also plan to have tailored practices specifically for new mothers. Initially, my offerings will begin locally, then virtually, and in time will grow to include retreats, centers, businesses, and events.
With the many challenges that came in 2020, we were all thrown into a time of reflection; reflecting on what we value, what we take for granted, what we need to shed, what blessings to embrace, how we treat ourselves, and live our lives. My particular experience emphasized the necessity of community and our interconnected success. I am incredibly grateful to those who aid me in my current endeavor and I am equally grateful for the opportunity to pass on the mantle once my yoga certificate is earned. A deep and heartfelt thanks to all of you who donate, share, and otherwise support this cause.
