Help BG Community Organizer Buy a Car!

Hey guys! My name is De'inara Carter, but everyone calls me Daisy. I have been knee-deep in community organizing and facilitation since the 2020 uprisings, working to find transformative ways for people to engage in mutual aid practices that will ultimately improve the quality of life for my community. In doing this, I've temporarily put my education on hold and have devoted myself to the liberation movement. I am the founder of a non-profit mutual aid group based in Bowling Green, Kentucky called Rise and Shine (https://www.instagram.com/riseandshinebgky/) , and I currently hold a position as the State Campaign Organizer for the Poor People's Campaign.

A lot of my organizing requires travel to some degree. Because of the help of my wonderful friends, whom I consider my second family, I have been fortunate enough to continue spreading my ideas throughout my community and beyond. But the fact of the matter is...I need a car. And because of the lack of affordable housing in my community, which is quickly becoming a nationwide crisis, bills that always seem to pile up, and the need to sustain myself in the midst of all of this chaos, I'm unable to save up for a vehicle of my own. I've recently mustered up the strength to get behind the wheel finally. I was involved in multiple car accidents as a child, which has often left me feeling unsafe in moving vehicles as an adult, especially when I'm not the one driving. And while my fear is still present, I'm ready to hit the road.

Owning a car would expose me to more organizing opportunities, ones that feel so close yet so far away. It would also allow me to engage with my community differently, to use this privilege to help others. I want to help folks get their groceries, run their errands, assist with childcare, etc. If you know me, I somehow manage to be everywhere all the time. But this is because I'm walking everywhere, and quite frankly, it's always been time consuming and tiresome. I've made a lot of sacrifices for my community, and have neglected my body and mental well-being for the betterment of others. It's time that I ask for some of that love back. Whatever we raise during this fundraiser will be put towards purchasing a used car, and hopefully a couple of months worth of car insurance, just for some extra security. Let's see how much we can get by May 1st!
