BEYRICK DE VRIES
REACHING FOR MY DREAMS

Pro surfer Beyrick De Vries' lifelong dream, is
to surf on the world tour, Ultimately Be the first surfer to represent The Netherlands in the  2024 Olympics and bring surf culture, values,
health and wellness to inland communities in
Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland.

MY STORY

I've dedicated my heart, soul and body to surfing competitively over the last 17 years. I started surfing when I was 10 years old, and have been blessed to travel the world, and surf the best waves while competing in the WSL Men’s Junior Tour, Qualifying Series, Challengers Series and a wild card in the Mens Championship Tour in the J-Bay Pro. Throughout my surfing journey, I have learnt so many valuable life lessons, met countless amazing people along the way, and adapted to navigate my way through the twists and turns that come with this lifestyle. I am thankful for these experiences, which have enriched my life and shaped me as a person. I have gained a lot of experience, not only as an experienced surfer, with the knowledge on how to surf the waves, and compete at each of the various locations around the world, but also the mental determination, drive, and fire it takes, to continue to put in the intensely strenuous training and countless hours of hard work to make it to the top.

Making the World Tour has always been my main dream, and I have been extremely close to making it by a just few spots on the rankings. With surfing being added as one of the sports in the Olympics games, I have decided to shift my focus towards the 2024 Olympics which will be held at Teahupo’o in Tahiti. Although I am South African born and raised, I also have a Dutch passport. I have always felt a connection to the Netherlands, where my ancestors are from, and the memories of visiting my grandparents in Rotterdam, always put a smile on my face. I have recently started representing the Netherlands which has opened me up to epic new opportunities for the future. I am already in talks with sponsors for 2023 which is super exciting.

I am honored to have been made coach for the
Netherlands Junior Surf Team, and I am super stoked to be able to share my love of surfing and the insight and knowledge I’ve gained throughout my professional surfing career, with athletes on all levels, whether they’re are just starting, developing or the up-and-coming talent of future champions and olympians. Outside of my competitive aspirations, my legacy plan is to bring
surf culture, and all of its attributes to
Amsterdam. I envision a place where surfing and the values ingrained into its rich history,
together with a state of the art venue,
comprised of a wavepool, skate park, nightlife,
health and wellness, workout facility, music and arts are integrated, shared and celebrated with
inland communities. As an ambassador for Trash 4 Tokens, a non profit, I also strive to make
environmental change, raising awareness about the importance of ocean conservation and
preserving our planet, so we can and share this with future generations and hopefully inspire
others to do the same.

My 2022 plan is to take a step away from the
WSL for a year and take this time to fully 100%
focus on working on my strengths, as well as the gaps in my surfing game. I will spend my time with in various strategically selected wave rich locations, with a coach to facilitate in the areas I plan on improving. Dedicating myself to achieving peak mental and physical performance , maintaining a well-rounded, elite athlete training program , including nutrition, fitness, rest and recovery. I plan to prepare myself, not only to qualify for the olympics, but to earn a medal in the historic games. I have never had the pleasure of completely focusing on improving my surfing. Growing up in South Africa there wasn’t enough money to support the professionals, even though I’ve been ranked in the top three South Africans for the last decade. My hope is to secure sufficient funding for 2022 and get my surfing up to the level I’ve always known it could be. Training, practicing and getting my equipment to the level of my competitors or even higher. I'm seeking strategic partnerships with brands that I can actively support and represent. I’ve had a taste of being at the top and I am hungry for more.
