Hi, my name is Bex and I’m fundraising for medical help to help me recover from FND. I’ve had Functional Neurological Disorder since my early 20’s, and I’m now 46. I’ve been accused of faking, ignored, misdiagnosed, left to figure out for myself why I was having dystonia, paralysis episodes, non epileptic seizures, weakness, tremors, tics and more. Any visit to hospital was met with “we don’t know what it is” and discharged with no help. I discovered a website that helped me identify my symptoms in my 30’s and I was able to manage it for a few years and stop the FND episodes. However it came back after a period of prolonged stress and illness (I got Lyme disease!) a few years ago and those management tools no longer work for me. I am due to see a neurologist in June, but I am aware there is a lack of understanding and adequate support for FND patients, which is meant to include PT rehab and therapy. I recently came across various neuro rehabs who have a good success rate with helping FND patients recover their mobility, and I would like their help. Unfortunately it is expensive at I would need to raise up to £5000 to cover all potential costs including the assessment, the rehab hours and carer support to get me there and bring me back as they are a distance from where I live. I’m on benefits so I’m not able to pay for it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it means I would reclaim my independence and my quality of life would improve greatly. Once I have raised the funds I can book the assessment appointment and go from there!
