On Mother's Day, our lives changed in an instant.

My mom, Betty, a 57-year-old loving mother, survived a horrific stray pitbull attack that left her with severe injuries to both of her legs, but her left calf was the worst. What should have been a day of celebration turned into a life-changing medical emergency.

During the attack, Betty courageously fought the dog off and was able to save herself. Her strength and determination that day likely prevented even more serious injuries. However, the damage to her left leg was extensive and has left her facing a long, painful recovery.

Since the attack, Betty has been hospitalized twice due to the severity of her injuries. Doctors have informed us that she will need multiple reconstructive surgeries to repair her left calf and restore as much function as possible. Along with these surgeries, she will require ongoing medical treatment, rehabilitation, wound care, and follow-up appointments.

Recovery is expected to take a year or longer, depending on the success of the surgeries and how her body heals throughout the process. The physical pain, emotional trauma, and financial burden have been overwhelming for our family.

Anyone who knows Betty knows her kind heart, strength, and willingness to help others. Even through this difficult experience, she hopes her story can serve as an important reminder about dog safety. Betty wants to raise awareness that unfamiliar, loose, or stray dogs can be unpredictable, and that situations can change in a matter of seconds. She hopes that by sharing her experience, others will be more aware of potential dangers and take precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.

We are asking for donations to help cover medical expenses, reconstructive surgeries, rehabilitation, transportation to appointments, medications, and other recovery-related costs. She needs to pay $550 up front to see the surgeon every 2 weeks until the medical insurance kicks in. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the burden and allow Betty to focus on healing.

If you are unable to donate, we would be incredibly grateful if you could share this fundraiser and help spread Betty's story and message of awareness.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your encouragement means the world to Betty and our family as she continues this difficult journey toward recovery.

With sincere gratitude,

Betty's Family
