My name is Bettina, and I am 61 years old. I live in a small studio apartment, which I was only able to secure with the help of a co-signer because my disability income is very limited—barely enough to cover my rent. For a while, I managed to get by, but everything changed in July 2025 when my co-signer lost their father. Soon after, their finances were compromised, and everything was stolen from them—not once, but twice. This left both of us in a very difficult situation, as I rely on their help to pay my rent and afford basic necessities like food and toiletries.
When I could no longer pay my rent on time, I asked my landlord if I could make small payments to catch up, but she refused, saying it was against company policy. I had always been able to do this with previous managers, but now I found myself falling deeper into debt with Quantum Residential. In October 2025, they issued an eviction notice. At the same time, I was experiencing severe pain and bleeding, and in December, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I have surgery scheduled for January 9th, 2026, and a second court hearing for my eviction in February. My debt to Quantum Residential has grown, and I have no one to represent me in court.
I am at a loss and don’t know where to turn. I never imagined I would be in this position, but I am reaching out for help so I can keep my home and focus on my health. If I don’t get help, I will be homeless and fighting cancer with my old cat, Monkey. Any support you can offer—no matter how small—means the world to me. Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation. Sincerely, Bettina S.
